MAKING BENEFITS AND APPLICATION UNDERSTANDABLE THROUGH VISUALIZATION
TenCate AquaVia creates solutions to protect natural resources and thus build a more sustainable world for future generations. An example of this eco-responsible endeavor is TenCate GeoClean®, the result of 10 years of R&D. TenCate GeoClean® is a self-contained, maintenance-free and eco-friendly solution for managing runoff water. It is an aquatextile layer that purifies runoff water as soon as it infiltrates the soil, so that harmful substances such as oil and grease spills, for example, do not end up in the soil. In the aquatextile layer, by binding hydrocarbons, their biodegradation takes place. However, how do you explain this complex process and its application and make the benefits visible? C4Real came up with the solution: via 3D animations.
How do you make a complex operation visible?
THE SOLUTION: 3D ANIMATIONS
Voor de uitleg van het principe hoe GeoClean® werkt en wat de voordelen zijn, heeft C4Real een 3D animatie ontwikkeld. In de 3D animatie wordt duidelijk wat de waarde van deze oplossing is voor de leefomgeving van mensen, zodat we in onze vrije tijd kunnen genieten van bijvoorbeeld mooi zuiver water in de natuur. In de 3D animatie volgen we een druppel die ons meeneemt in onze huidige wereld, waarbij we reizen met de trein of met de auto en waarbij we sporen van olie en vet achterlaten. Om vervolgens uit te leggen hoe het principe van GeoClean® werkt, is een 2D animatie ingevoegd, waarbij op een reële manier de afbraak van olie en vet door bacteriën zichtbaar gemaakt wordt. Op deze manier is het mogelijk een complex proces dat niet met het blote oog te zien is, inzichtelijk te maken. De productie is zonder voice-over, beeld zegt in deze case meer dan 1000 woorden. Wel zijn de graphics in 4 talen uitgewerkt (NL, EN, FR, DU).

THE PROCESS
C4Real's working method has a concept phase and a production phase, preceded by an analysis. After all, in order to create accurate animations, it is important to understand exactly how the product works. A special feature of this 3D animation is the very extensive concept phase that was completed. The pure operation of the product in the narrow sense, is embedded in a 3D world, a model in the form of an island of even 10-15 km wide (!), where the possible application areas of GeoClean® come into view. By following the journey of the droplet in this world, the overall story becomes clear. After all, the higher goal is to contribute to a more sustainable world with GeoClean®. Obviously, it took a lot of conceptual thinking to realize this impact. In time it was half of the assignment for this case (normally the concept phase takes about 25% of the time).
